Overview ===================================================================== The GLIMPSE 20050407 data release is comprised of mosaiced images for each IRAC band and quick-look 3-color (bands 1,3 and 4) jpeg files. We provide two sizes of mosaic fits files: 1.1 x 0.8 deg 0.6" pixel mosaics and 3.1 x 2.4 deg 1.2" pixel mosaics. The mosaicked images for each band are standard 32-bit IEEE floating point FITS files with Galactic coordinates. The units of the mosaic fits files are MJy/sr. GLIMPSE image processing for the mosaic image products include a column pulldown correction for bands 1 and 2 and a banding correction for band 3 and 4 data. Hot, dead, missing and saturated data pixels are masked. Outlier (cosmic ray) pixels and most of the stray light areas are masked. Artifacts in areas that have only single-frame coverage (e.g. outside latitudes +- 1 deg) remain in the mosaic so there are no gaps in coverage. One set of mosaic images is 1.1 deg x 0.8 deg (6640 x 4840 pixels) for the SURVEY region. Each file is about 128 Megabytes in size. There are three mosaics per one degree galactic longitude interval with 0.1 deg overlap in longitude and 0.05 deg overlap in latitude between mosaics. For example, for the Galactic longitude of 308 deg, the centers of the three mosaics are (308.5 deg, +0.75 deg), (308.5 deg, 0.0 deg), and (308.5 deg, -0.75 deg). The longitude range is 307.95 deg to 309.05 deg for each of the three mosaics. The latitude ranges are 0.35 deg to 1.15 deg, -0.40 deg to +0.40 deg, and -1.15 deg to -0.35 deg. Filenames are GLM_lcbc_mosaic_Ich.fits, where lc and bc are the Galactic longitude and latitude of the center of the mosaic image, I denotes IRAC, and ch is the IRAC channel number. For example, GLM_30850+075_mosaic_I1.fits is a 1.1 deg x 0.8 deg IRAC channel 1 mosaic centered on l=308.50 deg, b=0.75 deg. We provide 3-color jpeg images for each 1.1 deg x 0.8 deg area, combining bands 1, 3, and 4, to be used for quick look purposes. The filename for this jpeg file is similar to the mosaic fits file: e.g. GLM_30850+075.jpg. The other set of mosaics covers a larger area: 3.1 x 2.4 deg (9320 x 7220 pixels) at 1.2" per pixel. Each file is about 270 Megabytes in size. There is a 0.1 deg overlap in longitude between these mosaics. The file naming convention is the same: GLM_lcbc_mosaic_Ich.fits. We also provide the quicklook 3.1 x 2.4 deg 3-color jpeg images. The filename is similar to the other jpeg images, with "_3x2" appended: e.g. GLM_30950+000_3x2.jpg. IMPORTANT NOTE: The filenames for the 3.1 x 2.4 deg mosaic fits files are the same as some of the the b=0.0 deg 1.1 x 0.8 deg mosaics due to the way we determine our filenames (lcbc). The files are in separate directories but it could potentially cause a problem. ===================================================================== 2. Miscellaneous Information ===================================================================== 1.1 x 0.8 deg mosaics for l=308 and 309 deg were delivered in January 2005. The mosaics in this delivery supercede those January 2005 mosaics. (Observation Strategy Validation (OSV) mosaics were also delivered in January 2005. We will deliver new OSV images at the end of April.) We have two missing frames, back to back, in the band 4 data of the 309.50 -0.75 area. This gives us a half-frame gap in the coverage around l=309.43 deg, b=-0.79 deg. We plan to re-observe this area to fill in the gap. SSC pipeline version used for the l308.0-315.0 data is S9.5.0.
